Aukake 2014

Aloha,
As you all know we are down to the last quarter of the year and the days are moving so very quickly that before you know it Christmas and the New Year will be upon us. Yes, 2014 is almost over and we will get ready to greet 2015. I hope that all of you have brought your dues current for this year.

This is the beginning of a busy season. We will be looking for and picking purple crown flowers then stringing them for our Queen Lili`uokalani’s Birthday celebration. We will dress her statue after stringing the lei. Her statue if you don’t know is located between the Hawai`i State Capitol and the Iolani Palace.
August is usually when we start to get ready for Convention, Aloha Festivals and our Queen’s Birthday. The activities in August and September can be very educational and you can learn more about Queen Lili`uokalani and Aloha Festivals and enjoy these activities. I would like to invite as many members as possible to come out and help with these activities. We will guide you to what needs to be done. It’s called OJT (on the job training).

We are getting ready for Aloha Festivals that begins on Saturday, September 6, 2014 with the Investiture of the new Aloha Festivals Royal Court and the Opening Ceremony that will all be held for the first time at Helumoa at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. If you choose to attend you will have to park in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center parking structure. Note: Parking validation is available when attending, ask me. We are recruiting MEN and Older Boys for The Aloha Festivals Ho‘olaulea along Kalakaua Avenue on Saturday, September 20, 2014. These guys will be escorting the Royal Court through the crowd and will be dressed in malo, capes and carrying spears.

The Aloha Festivals Floral Parade will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 and our club helps to line up the entire parade. The parade starts at the Ewa entrance of Ala Moana Park and ends at Kapi‘olani Park. You all can be involved in all aspects of this parade. We can certainly use your help. Toni Lee is the Chair of this parade and if you are available that day please call her at (808) 222-7853.

Coming up in October we will be having our Election of Officers for our Club and if you are interested in being a member of our Officers and Board of Directors please call me at 479-3263 or Ka‘iulani Hess at 488-1540. Mahalo to Ka‘iulani for volunteering to Chair of the Nominations Committee. All positions are open, don’t be hilahila.

SEE YOU ALL AT OUR NEXT MEETING ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2014.

Aloha Pumehana,

Charles K. Kapua

President
